Texas Holdem is surely the most popular variant of poker, it is played in the World Series of Poker and it is so popular for a reason. It can be a difficult game to learn but it can also bring a lot of rewards.

Up to 10 people can play this game and it never gets boring. The goal of the game is simple. Like in poker, you have to make the best hand possible by having the right combination of 5 cards. The main difference here is that you don’t have 5 cards in your hand, you have only 2 and the action develops over 4 rounds before the game will end.

You have to use your strategies and bluffs in order to get the most out of the game and win as often as you can. So let’s see how to play the game.

Setup

In the online environment everything is done automatically, so you don’t have to worry that much about it, but I will explain how the game starts. The player that is at the left of the dealer is called the “small blind” (that is half of the minimum stake), after him, the second player to the left is the “big blind” (which is the minimum stake). But as I said, everything is calculated automatically.

The first round

Every player gets 2 cards and they keep those cards for themselves. After that, the have three choices: buy in, call or fold (quit the round and place no bet). The players that have placed the blind can’t fold (the small and big blinds). After this, the “flop” will begin, 3 cards will be placed on the table and everyone can see and “use” those.

Second Round

The round starts with the first player to the left of the dealer and they have to decide if they want to bet, call, check (they don’t want to bet or fold) or fold. If in the last round a bet was made, the check option will not be available and the players will have to choose between betting, raising or folding. If all players check, then the next card from the deck is placed on the table, immediately.

A player can match the other bets by betting with the same amount as the others. If you want to raise, you will have to bet the big blind as the minimum. After the betting round has finished, then the next card will be placed on the table.

Third Round

This round is similar to the second round and after this one has finished, the next card from the deck will be placed on the table.

Fourth Round

If there still are players remaining by now, everyone has to show their hand in order to see which player has the best 5-card combination and that will be the winner. If the best combination come from the table cards, then the win is split between the remaining players. If the players combinations are similar, then the difference will be made by the “kicker”.

After a game is finished, the dealer role will be passed to the next player, clockwise and a “D” will appear near the current dealer.

Conclusion

Texas Hold’em is an interesting game and it can be a lot of fun. If played correctly, it can even bring you some decent rewards. It is no wonder this is the most popular poker variant, it never gets boring and the format attracts a lot of new players.
